Into the Forest – Exploring the Finnskogen Region

Finnskogen.jpg

📅 When: 4–7 September 2025
📍 Where: Finnskogen area and surroundings
👥 Who: Maximum 25 participants

Thursday, 4 September

We’ll depart by bus at 16:00, shortly after the congress concludes. Our destination is the beautiful Finnskogen area, where we’ll settle into our accommodation and enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by forest.

Friday, 5 September

After breakfast, we’ll head out on a guided hike through the Finnskogen landscape. There will be two hiking options:

  • A longer route (~15 km) for those eager to explore more extensively

  • A shorter, more relaxed option (~5 km) for a slower-paced experience

Both routes will take place between Håberget and Gravberget, offering insights into the region’s forestry culture, local ecology, and ongoing research projects. We’ll break for a forest BBQ lunch, followed by a presentation from a representative of the Norwegian Forest-Finnish Museum, who will introduce us to the cultural history of the area. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Kjølberget wind park and discuss its impact on forest grouse and other wildlife species. In the evening, we will drive to Rena where we will spend the night.

Saturday, 6 September

After breakfast, we’ll begin our return journey, with two options once again:

  • Option 1: Visit the Norwegian Forest Museum followed by a short hike (~5 km) in a mountain area near Evenstad

  • Option 2: Skip the museum and go for a longer hike (~15–20 km) in a nearby mountain area close to Evenstad

In the afternoon, we’ll travel to Campus Evenstad, where we’ll gather with all other excursion groups for the final congress dinner and celebration.

Sunday, 7 September

On Sunday morning, it’s time to say goodbye. We will organize transportation to Hamar, where you can catch a train to Oslo or Oslo Airport. If you’d like to extend your stay, you’re welcome to explore Koppang and its surroundings—there are afternoon train connections available from Koppang to Oslo.
